Has copying in fashion always been a problem, or has it grow exponentially because of social media?

Over the generations people have always copied and improved on existing concepts. Had humanity not of built on-top of existing ideas, we wouldn't have the advances in technology, fashion or tasty foods we have today. Copying, in my opinion, is a huge part of evolving in society.

When I was a kid I copied everyone when it came to fashion. I dressed like Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, Vanilla Ice, Ice T, you name it. This was well before social media. Now I look at social media folk and honesty couldn’t care less about their fashion. Perhaps if I was a kid again I would and in turn would mimick their style but most of them seem like they’re desperate for meaning and I don’t care about their fashion. Maybe it’s just an age thing and not a social media thing.
